From comes this definition (of a new word for me):

Argot (French for "slang") is primarily slang used by various groups, including but not limited to thieves and other criminals, to prevent outsiders from understanding their conversations.

1337 (leet short for elite) is composed of argots and so are many of the memes. I love seeing argots in books where if you started reading later in the book you would not understand the speech but starting from the beginning and learning all the argots, you can understand the later parts perfectly. The Smurfs cartoon had one simple argot "smurf" as a noun, verb, and base for adjectives and adverbs. I will have to write as many argots as I can into my stuff because I like them.
