Optimistic skepticism

I am reading "Persepolis, The Story of a Childhood" by Marjane Satrapi, a "graphic novel" autobiography set in the revolution of Iran in the 1980s. Her dad said "My natural optimism just leads me to be skeptical" and I was thinking "that's exactly what I think". I have to leave all the possibilities open due to my optimistic thinking so I have doubts about everything because things might be better or at least different then what I currently see as likely to be true.
